Reliquary, Limoges, 1st quarter of 13th century, wooden core, copper plates, champlevé enamel

This reliquary from Limoges was created after 1200. This very exquisite and colourful treasure, suggesting a house, serves as a place to store relics. The enamel background shines in a bright blue, and rosettes and discs in green, red and white heighten the effect. The front shows the beheading of St. Valeria of Aquitaine.
