The two-storey cupboard "Dürer Cupboard", Nuremburg, c. 1515, limewood, cherry, ash

The "Dürer Cupboard," a masterpiece of late Gothic furniture, is a highlight during a tour of the museum.

The wood carver was inspired by woodcuts made by Albrecht Dürer and Lucas Cranach the Elder. Carved in the cupboard is a variety of scenes from different ages: Hercules and Diana from ancient mythology up until the Christian motifs of Adam and Eve. This scenery is framed by filigree tendrils.
